Gardening in Casares: slopes, wind and stony soil
The hills of Casares are more open to the wind than the sheltered bays further east. Inland, the soil is often clay or rocky, which holds water in winter but sets hard in summer. On slopes, rain can run off before it soaks in, so drip irrigation and a layer of mulch make a big difference.
