Trees we prune
Gardens on the Costa del Sol are full of trees that love the sun but grow fast. Without pruning they can block light and views, drop branches or reach roofs and pools.
We prune the trees you will find in most gardens here, from a single lemon tree on a terrace to large pines and ficus in a villa garden.
- Olive trees
- Orange, lemon and other citrus trees
- Pine, carob and pepper trees
- Jacaranda and ficus
- Mango and avocado trees
Different kinds of pruning
Young trees need shaping so they grow strong and balanced. This is called formative pruning. Older trees need regular maintenance pruning to keep them healthy and in proportion.
When a tree is too dense, we thin the crown (the leafy top) so light and air can pass through. When a tree is too big, we can reduce the crown carefully. We also remove dead wood and cut back branches that touch the house, the roof or hang over the pool.
When should trees be pruned on the Costa del Sol?
For most trees, late winter is the best time, before new growth starts. Olive and citrus trees are best pruned after the harvest.
We avoid heavy cuts in the summer heat. Big wounds in July and August stress the tree and can let in sunburn and disease. Light tidying is fine all year.
Safe work and a clean garden afterwards
Tall trees mean working at height, so we use the right equipment and take care around your house, walls and plants. When we finish, we remove all the cuttings and leave the garden tidy. If a tree has to come down completely, we can do that on request.
Send us a WhatsApp message or use the form, ideally with a photo of the tree. We visit or look at your photos, then send a free quote with no obligation. If you are away, we send photos once the work is done.
