Frigiliana is a white village a few kilometres inland from Nerja, often called one of the prettiest villages in Andalusia. Its Moorish-style old town is a maze of steep whitewashed lanes full of flower pots and bougainvillea. The village is known for its sugar-cane honey, miel de caña, and sits on the edge of the Sierras de Tejeda, Almijara y Alhama natural park.
Around the village, villas and fincas sit on terraced hillsides with avocado, mango, olive and citrus trees. Many owners come from abroad and spend part of the year here. Village houses often have a patio or roof terrace full of pots and climbers, while country homes have more land to look after.

Frigiliana's terraces are warm and sunny, which suits avocado, mango and citrus, but they dry out quickly in summer. Retaining walls and narrow paths make some gardens hard to reach. In the old town, pots and climbers on sunny walls need regular water and feeding to keep flowering.
Plots near the natural park should also be kept clear of dry scrub before the fire season.
